I am a reader TAG

Hello

Today I thought I would post this tag to give you a bit of an insight into my reading journey; this kind of explains how I became a reader and why reading is so important to me.

Stephen King

1. Choose one word that describes being a reader
Consuming; I find reading to be an all consuming activity, when I read I am dead to the world, the apocalypse could start and I would still be fully engrossed in my book.

2. What’s the very first book you fell in love with
I don’t know if it’s the first book I feel in love with but I vividly remember the book being one I read a lot as a kid; The Tiger Came to Tea by Judith Kerr. I think it is probably one of the first books I learned to read independently.

3. Hardcover or paperback
Paperback, always. I can’t hold a hardcover book, it hurts my hand and I always drop them on my face.

4. How has reading shaped your identity
I am an introvert; this is something I have come to terms with and I no longer think of it as a flaw. I get exhausted being around people who aren't in my immediate circle (i.e. my other half, my parents and my sister) for extended periods of time. Reading helps me to recuperate and feel relaxed, there are few things I prefer to letting my mind float off to another universe and away from reality.
5. What book do you read when you need to be comforted
When I was younger I used to read my Milly-Molly-Mandy books if I couldn’t sleep, nowadays I tend to read whatever book I am currently reading if I need to fall asleep or to relax.

6. Who taught you to be a reader (or did you do it on your own)
My parents encouraged me the whole way through my childhood to read, but ultimately I just got so addicted to reading, I would rather read than speak to people most days.

7. Describe your dream reading lounge
See below picture from Pinterest; I think it would best be described as a cosy reading nook.

8. What book changed the way you act or see the world
This is a really hard question because every book I read has some impact on me; the first book I read which really made me question my identity as a woman in society was probably Jane Eyre. I read it when I was about 11 and I remember questioning the way Jane was treated by the people around her and I recognised that it wasn’t acceptable.

Let me know what book changed you in the comments.

Thanks for reading
